Greece's goal drought continued as they drew a blank for a third successive game in a 0-0 draw against fellow FIFA World Cup qualifiers Nigeria in Chester, Philadelphia.

A side showing ten changes from the starting XI in Saturday's stalemate with Portugal were rarely troubled at the back but posed little threat going forward. Greece's best chance came seven minutes from time when substitute Kostas Mitroglou teed up Giorgios Samaras, who had his shot blocked; Dimitris Salpingidis headed the rebound wide.

Greece had the better of proceedings, with 37-year-old skipper Giorgos Karagounis, Lazaros Christodoulopoulos and Giannis Fetfatzidis quickly wresting control of the midfield. Christodoulopoulos and Fetfatzidis both went close midway through the first half but not until that late flurry did Fernando Santos's team threaten again.

Nigeria almost stole it at the last, too, with Ogenyi Onazi forcing a fine stop from 20-year-old substitute goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino. Greece will hope for more success in front of goal against Bolivia in New Jersey on Thursday. They then travel to Brazil and start their World Cup campaign the following Saturday against Colombia in Belo Horizonte. Japan and Ivory Coast complete Group C.»
